EHS programs of America's Safest Companies spotlighted at ASC conference in Chicago Sept. 11 and 12.

Jim Gribbins, president of Gribbins Insulation, as well as Vice President Brian Willett and Safety Manager Trevor Atherton will review the keys to their award-winning safety program and how they are able to maintain a culture of zero injuries on many different types of jobsites.

Gribbins Insulation was chosen as one of America’s Safest Companies in 2011 and the company’s safety efforts consistently receive national recognition. In January, the National Safety Council selected Jim Gribbins as one of the 2012 CEOs Who Get It, along with the CEO of Dow Chemical. In April, the National Insulation Association honored Gribbins Insulation with the Platinum Safety Award, its highest recognition.

At the end of May, Gribbins employees achieved the milestone of working 2 million consecutive hours without a lost time accident; almost 5 years of accident-free work.

“There is absolutely no task that is so important that we might consider sacrificing safety, to even the slightest degree, in an effort to perform the task,” said Gribbins.

EHS Today’s America’s Safest Companies Conference is scheduled for Sept. 11 and 12 Chicago’s McCormick Place. The conference features two roundtables – one featuring executives from companies named ASC in 2012, and the other featuring former assistant secretaries of labor Ed Foulke and John Henshaw and NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard. Three education tracks – health/safety, environment/sustainability/risk and compliance – offer 18 educational sessions featuring 35 speakers from many of America’s Safest Companies, as well as industry and legal experts. The conference also includes a luncheon, where the announcement of the 2012 America’s Safest Companies will be made, and many networking opportunities.

During their presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 12, the team from Gribbins will discuss employee roles, strategic planning, total participation and training programs, as well as the accident investigation process and motivational points system. Attendees can expect to learn methods for elimination of incidents and the importance of executive leadership and employee involvement.

“Our core values – integrity, quality, productivity and innovation – all have a common thread: Safety. Every team member at Gribbins Insulation, including the person we hired yesterday and the person we may hire tomorrow, must place safety in front of all actions. There is absolutely no task that is so important or necessary that we might consider sacrificing safety, to even the slightest degree, in an effort to perform the task,” said Gribbins.
