Pedestrians Should Exercise Caution While Playing Pokémon Go

July 12, 2016
National Safety Council reminds gamers to exercise safety when playing augmented reality games.

With more than 7.5 million downloads and a 60 percent daily user rate in its first six days, Pokémon Go is quickly rising in popularity.

With this, the National Safety Council urges pedestrians to exercise caution while playing the Pokémon Go augmented reality game, and the Council implores drivers to refrain from playing the game behind the wheel.

Distracted walking has contributed to more than 11,000 injuries in the last decade and distracted driving has killed thousands.  Every single injury and death could have been prevented if pedestrians and drivers stayed alert and prioritized the task at hand, said the NSC.

Reports of close calls associated with playing Pokémon Go already are rolling in. The NSC urges gamers to consider safety over their scores before a life is lost.
