China: Six Workers Injured in Chemical Plant Spill

Six workers have been hurt in an acid gas spill at a chemical plant in northwest China's Gansu Province, the state-run Xinhua news agency is reporting.

The incident occurred Jan. 10 in a workshop of the Gansu Chemical Industry Institute in Lanzhou, according to Xinhua.

According to the news agency, a piece of equipment "burst open under the pressure of drastic reaction," spraying acid gas on six workers. Three of the workers were seriously injured, while the others were "slightly affected," according to Xinhua.

Quoting a safety official from the city of Lanzhou, the news agency is reporting that the chemical plant has been shut down for inspection.
