On a hot, sunny day in June, golfers took to the Texas Star Golf Course with two goals in mind: to beat their friends and frenemies in a round of golf and to support the ASSE Foundation of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

Each year, nearly 150 golfers show that Safety Matters by supporting the ASSE Foundation and its mission to provide educational advancement, leadership development and research opportunities to advance the safety, health and environmental profession. This year’s tournament was hosted by the ASSE Foundation in partnership with PIP and DSM Dyneema.

The ASSE Foundation supports quality, ground-breaking research, focusing on risk-assessment, sustainability and global governance, shoring up the profession for long-term growth and impact. Programs include the Liberty Mutual Research Fellowship, the Foundation Research Grant Program and the RAND Institute collaboration.

The foundation has awarded hundreds of scholarships and grants to students and professionals, contributing to the vision of a well-credentialed and highly educated workforce of professionals. Other programs include the Family Scholarship Fund, which offers educational financial assistance to families who have lost a loved one in a workplace incident, and ABET accreditation support program.

Leadership development also plays a part in the mission of the ASSE Foundation. The young men and women who are just beginning their careers in EHS will become the leaders of tomorrow, so supporting these young professionals on their path is a large focus of the foundation’s efforts.
