America's Safest Companies 2018

Nov. 8, 2018
EHS Today salutes 13 organizations that exemplify how the safest companies are
also the most productive and ultimately, the most successful.

Welcome to our annual celebration of safety excellence in leadership, as we profile the winners of the America's Safest Companies 2018 awards. The presentation of these awards are being made in conjunction with EHS Today's Safety Leadership Conference 2018 in Louisville, Ky.

To be considered one of America's Safest Companies, organizations must demonstrate: support from leadership and management for EHS efforts; employee involvement in the EHS process; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates lower than the average for their industries; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; good communication about the value of safety; and a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.

In the profiles that follow you'll see all of the above, as the best practices, employee engagement and safety leadership on display at these organizations truly put them in rare company with the previous ASC winners. With these companies, you won't see the safety function siloed off as more of a reaction than a plan; instead you'll see safety leveraged as a competitive advantage. You'll see familiar corporate giants, as well as smaller companies you may have never heard of before. All of them share one trait in common: When it comes to safety, they get it.

The winning companies are Ashland LLC, Bancroft Construction Co., Denark Construction Inc., Digital Realty Trust Inc., EnTrans International, Graycor Industrial Constructors Inc., The Great Lakes Construction Co., Gribbins Insulation, Icon Corp., Komatsu Mining Corp., Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Raytheon Co. and Total Safety.

America's Safest Companies was founded in 2002 by EHS Today and to date 238 companies have been recognized with this annual award. Read on, and hopefully their success stories will inspire you to reach a little bit further in your own safety initiatives, and perhaps your company too could be a future ASC winner.
