DuPont Settles EPA's Pesticide Charges

Nov. 9, 2000
DuPont Co. has agreed to pay $190,000 to settle federal civil\r\ncharges alleging the company shipped\r\npesticides whose labels failed to comply with worker protection\r\nlaws.

DuPont Co. Tuesday agreed to pay $190,000 to settle federal civil charges alleging the leading U.S. chemical company of shipping pesticides whose labels failed to comply with worker protection laws.

Without admitting or denying the charges filed by EPA in 1994, DuPont entered a consent decree in September, the company said in a quarterly earnings statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The fine falls short of the original $1.9 million an EPA administrative judge had proposed the company pay for allegedly shipping pesticides with labels that did not adequately say that protective wear is required when using the product.

DuPont has not formally commented on the settlement.
