OSHA: Florida Window Manufacturer Exposes Workers to Amputations

Assura Windows and Doors failed to protect its employees from numerous hazards.

A Florida window and door manufacturer whose slogan says it will protect all that matters failed to protect its workers.

OSHA inspectors discovered numerous health and safety violations following an inspection of Assura Windows and Doors LLC's manufacturing facility.

"Employers are required by law to protect the safety and health of their workers,"stated Condell Eastmond, OSHA Fort Lauderdale-area office director. "OSHA offers compliance assistance resources and specialists that can help employers identify and correct hazards in their workplaces."

An investigation of the Pompano Beach, Fla.-based company was completed under the National Emphasis Program on Amputations.

Agency inspectors found Assura failed to install machine guarding, did not develop and implement a hazardous energy control program and improperly stored and handed flammable materials. The company also was cited for electric shock hazards.

In addition, Assura also received citations for failing to implement a hearing conservation program, lack of personal protective equipment, exposing workers to slips, trips and falls; and failure to anchor machinery. 

Assura Windows and Doors LLC has 15 business days to respond to the $162,688 in proposed penalties and violations.
