Consolidation in PPE Industry as MCR Safety Buys U.S. Safety

Memphis, Tenn.-based MCR Safety said it has acquired Parmelee Industries Inc., the parent company of PPE maker U.S. Safety.

The acquisition also includes Parmelee's U.K. subsidiary.

Founded in 1935 by A.F. Parmelee, U.S. Safety makes protective eyewear, respirators, fall-protection harnesses, hardhats and other safety gear. The company has its corporate offices and manufacturing operations in Lenexa, Kan.

"We have always held U.S. Safety and its leadership team in the highest regard and are very excited about combining these product lines," MCR Safety CEO Mitch Lewellen said in a news release. "This creates significant added value to our customer partners and the industry we serve.

"The Parmelees and Sankpills have built one of the most trusted and respected companies and brand in our industry."  

MCR Safety makes Memphis gloves, Crews eyewear and other protective gear.

"With the strength of MCR Safety's market position, leadership and reputation supporting us, we expect great things to come," said J.P. Sankpill, president of U.S. Safety.
